South Dakota

Keegan went on his first road trip this last weekend. Both Matt and Keegan came with me to South Dakota for one of my work meetings and we were able to do some sightseeing on both ends of the trip. It was a lot of fun.

On our way out there we stopped a lot to stretch our legs.
We ate dinner at the Firehouse Brewery in downtown Rapid City. Keegan tried to order his own food, but we reminded him he doesn't have teeth yet.

Keegan went swimming for the very first time. At first he wasn't quite sure what to think about it ...

But then he decided it was ok.

We drove through Custer State Park and saw deer, antelope, elk and buffalo!

We took a tour of Jewel Cave. It is the second longest cave in the world, and it was incredible. It is a limestone cave that is covered, wall-to-wall, with unbelievable crystals in shapes that I have never heard of or seen before. Amazing!

Looks like butterscotch!
These are called drapery crystals.
We had a dinner reception at Mount Rushmore, where we got to meet the park superintendent and hear him speak as well as see the lighting of the memorial.

We were trying to hold his head up in line with the Presidents, but he wanted nothing to do with that.
A goat at Mount Rushmore!

On the way home we stopped at the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, SD. I had been there a long time ago, and thought Matt would get a kick out of it. It was a sinkhole that over 55 mammoths fell into and their bones were preserved. It is really cool.

All-in-all Keegan was a trooper. By the end he was tired and could barely keep his eyes open.

  1. Woah...he's getting so big, and looking so much older! Still lucky with beautiful hair! What a fun family trip.
