Friday night we went on our first camping trip. Not only was it Keegan's first camping trip, but it was also the first camping trip of our marriage (we have been talking about going for 6 years but haven't gotten around to it). We went with a group from our church and had a great time! ... well at least 1/2 of the time!
We got there just in time for desserts on the fire; s'mores, dough boys and little pies, YUMMY! Just as everybody was finishing up and starting to put kids to bed we got a pretty heavy rain storm. Keegan had a hard time falling asleep, and after he finally did, everybody else had decided to call it a night, so we did too. I had a hard time falling asleep and not long after I did Keegan decided to start crying ... LOUD!! (about 1 AM) Now, he will do this randomly at home, and we just let him cry for 30 sec - 1 min and he will put himself back to sleep, but because there were so many people around us, we picked him up and tried to calm him, but that made him cry HARDER. I eventually took him outside and walked him around which calmed him down a bit, but didn't get him back to sleep. There was some other excitement going on in other parts of the camp that we went to check out, and once that was settled down Keegan as WIDE awake. I knew there was NO way we were going to happily and quietly get him back to sleep. So about 2 AM we packed up everything and drove home.
It was bittersweet going home. I was really excited about the trip, and about spending time with the people who were there, but it was nice to sleep in my warm comfortable bed. In the morning I seriously considered driving back up to finish the activites, but it would have been to late by the time we got there.
I am getting worse and worse about taking pictures of things (I don't like my camera) and if it wasn't for my wonderful friend Valerie and her amazing and abundant picture taking skills I would only have two pictures to show from this trip. Thanks again Val! You really are wonderful!
Here is Keegan helping set up the tent. He loved playing in it (just not sleeping in it).

For what it's worth I'm glad you came.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! It really is worth it to get out there with the kids and see how they do. Of course it can be torture...but still worth a try. I'm glad the trip went well for you. I enjoy camping!
